The « ostensions » is a public commemoration of the saints of Limousin, in which the relics of the saints which are usually kept in different churches of the Diocese of Limoges, are venerated.
The «  ostensions » of Saint-Junien have been celebrated ever since 1211 and has occured every seven years since 1519.
How do the « ostensions » takes place:

Election of the committee in charge of the solemnity and the nomination of the 4 Swiss guards of the tomb on the second Sunday of January after the mass.

Feast « Saint-Junien-des-Neiges » on the last Sunday of January. Heraldic emblems of the 4 quarters with their specific colours are carried along the streets to the place where the city gates used to be. This signifies the symbolic opening of the city. This celebrates the discovery of Saint Junien’s relics by the priest Ithier, on January 28th, 990.
In the past it was celebrated on the anniversary date. It now takes place on the last Sunday of January.

Flags are blessed on the 1st Sunday of the 2nd half of Lent fast and are then put in place.

Shrines containing saint Junien and saint Amand’s relics are taken out of the tomb and placed behind the altar on Quasimodo Sunday (first Sunday after Easter). This ceremony is the most important « ostension », because it represents its true meaning and basis.

Two « mais » are erected: one in front of the collegial church and the other one in front of Notre Dame du Pont, on the first Sunday of May (« mais » are trees).

The closing of the « ostensions » happens in June. The procession of martyrs and saints risen from the dead goes along Lucien Dumas’ street, decorated with brooth specially for the occasion, which is transformed into the Comodoliac forest. At traditional places, along the walk, 8 small oratories are decorated with twigs and textiles by Jean Teilliet, telling the story of saint Amand and saint Junien’s lives.
